Kundalini yoga is one of the most spiritual types of yoga and is known as the yoga of awareness.
When practicing Kundalini Yoga the emphasis is on both meditation and the physical workout, but with added emphasis on consciousness that activates the energy centres [Chakras] in the body. Kundalini yoga opens the chakras through pranayama [breathing techniques], mudras [gestures, usually done with the hands that focuses and directs energy in yoga poses or meditation], bandhas [these direct prana [life force] within the physical and energetic pathways to promote healing, energising and strengthening of the whole human being] and chanting. However, Kundalini Kriyas [set of exercises] can still be very intense.
Kundalini yoga is about living in a more conscious way as a lot of us are being unconscious in our actions, acting on autopilot. There is a growing need to become aware of our subconscious programming so we create more choice in how we choose to behave and become more able to see things from different perspectives. It is not, however, about life being perfect but about being able to meet challenging experiences, better equipped to cope and move through them.
THE MAIN BENEFITS OF REGULAR, CONTINUOUS KUNDALINI YOGA PRACTICE ARE:
- It helps to strengthen your body and it’s functions.
- Helps achieve a calming and balancing effect on the different aspects of the mind and body.
- It helps you experience more energy and a sense of connection and joy.
- It can help you to move towards a state of increased awareness and experience a higher consciousness.
